Why prepare for birth?

It is important to realize that you do not need to learn how to give birth. That is something your body and your baby are already perfectly capable of! Think for example about your menstruation, that also happens without you ‘doing’ something. So, nobody will need to teach you how to breathe or how to position yourself, to get your baby out.

Sense of ownership

However, research shows that women that feel that they have ownership during birth have a more positive experience. Good preparation is part of this. If you have realistic expectations, there is less chance that you get overwhelmed and feel you lose control of your own process. It is important to understand what options and choices there are. You are the expert of your body, and your wishes are important. Informing yourself about different scenarios, and taking time in advance to think about these, can positively contribute to your experience. The birth preparation course of NatalWisdom provides you with knowledge and helps you to apply this knowledge to your own situation.

Support from your partner

Another aspect that is important in achieving a positive birth experience is continuous care/support. The way the maternity care is set up in Stavanger is that you likely will meet your midwife(s) or doctor(s) that will support you during birth, only when you have arrived at the hospital when birth has already started. These are not the same people you have met during your pregnancy at the midwife center. The key person that will be able to provide you with continuous care and support is therefore your birth partner. Preparing and talking about the birth together will allow your partner to be that continuous support person for you. Research has shown that this increases the chances for both of you to have a positive experience. Therefore the birth partners are actively included in NatalWisdom’s preparation course.

Trusting your body and feeling ready to surrender

The course will make you understand what is happening in your and your baby's body during labour and birth. Having knowledge about the body's intelligent design makes it easier to look forward to the birth with confidence and trust.

You deserve this

Not only will your birth be the start of a whole new chapter in your life, also it will be a moment you will not forget for the rest of your life. An important event in your life. You are worth it, to take this seriously and prepare for this.

"When we birth, we don't just birth babies.
We birth ourselves, we birth our families and we reshape our lives."
